Di Jepang Robot Dapat Berpikir...???

Terobosan yang berhasil dilakukan oleh para insinyur robot di Jepang memang amat mengagumkan. Kali ini mereka berhasil membuat robot yang mampu berpikir dan bertindak sesuai kondisi.

Robot tersebut dibuat oleh Hasegawa Group, dari Tokyo Institute of Technology. Di dalamnya terdapat sebuah fitur bernama self-replicating neural network, yakni teknologi yang memungkinkan sebuah robot mempelajari segala sesuatu yang berada di sekitarnya. Jadi tak melulu hanya mengandalkan perintah dari pembuatnya.

"Sejauh ini, robot yang berhasil diproduksi hanya bisa mengerjakan tugas tertentu. mereka tidak bisa Beradaptasi dengan perubahan lingkungan sekitar. Berbeda dengan robot ini, ia hanya mengetahui pengetahuan dasar kemudian bisa mengembangkannya," ujar Osamu Hasegawa, Associate Professor, Imaging Science and Engineering Lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Seperti dikutip detikINET dari Gadgethit, Kamis (4/8/2011), Hesegawa juga mencontohkan sebuah kasus dimana robot tersebut ditantang untuk membuat teh, padahal hal ini tidak termasuk dalam programnya.

"Robot tersebut akan berkata 'saya tidak bisa' tapi jika kita mengajarkannya, maka ia akan mengumpulkan segala informasi untuk melakukan hal tersebut," tambah Hasegawa. ( detikinet )

Teknologi Inverter Direct Drive, membuat konsumen terbebas dari suara motor mesin cuci yang mengganggu maupun kekhawatiran akan biaya listrik yang membengkak..pada umumnya mesin cuci didukung 2 motor penggerak yang terhubung melalui gelang karet. Bila mesin pertama berputar, maka secara otomatis mesin yang kedua akan ikut berputar bersamaan. Sehingga timbul getaran dan suara yang mengganggu terhadap mesin cuci yang ada. Guna menanggulangi permasalahan ini, Lantas LG membesut teknologi Inverter Direct Drive untuk jajaran produk mesin cuci front loading.

Industri Paling Tak Ramah Lingkungan...??? Apple...

Meski produk-produk Apple selalu menjadi pionir di bidang teknologi, sayangnya predikat yang sama tidak dapat disandang industri raksasa tersebut dalam bidang kelestarian lingkungan.
Organisasi lingkungan Greenpeace beberapa waktu lalu melakukan sebuah studi yang mengukur penggunaan sumber energi pada beberapa industri IT ternama seperti Google, Apple, Facebook dan Amazon. Hasilnya? Ternyata Apple menempati peringkat terakhir dalam hal kegiatan operasional yang ramah lingkungan.

Data hasil studi tersebut menyimpulkan bahwa 54.5% dari energi yang digunakan Apple dalam operasi industrinya berasal dari sumber energi tak tergantikan. Sebagai contoh, Apple iData Center di North Carolina mengkonsumsi 100 megawatt daya listrik – kurang lebih setara dengan konsumsi listrik 80,000 unit rumah di Amerika Serikat – yang 95% diantaranya dihasilkan dari bahan bakar batu Bara dan reaktor nuklir.

Greenpeace juga secara khusus menyampaikan perhatiannya mengenai teknologi informasi, baik dari segi keuntungannya bagi masyarakat serta dampak paralelnya bagi lingkungan.

“Teknologi informasi telah mengubah cara kita hidup, cara kita berkomunikasi, bersosialisasi dan menjalankan bisnis. Tetapi disamping dampak positif yang kasat mata, kita juga perlu memperhatikan apa yang terjadi di balik layar.” Demikian pernyataan Organisasi global tersebut.

Bagi kebanyakan orang, kelestarian lingkungan ‘hanya’ terkait dengan metode transportasi, penggunaan kantong plastik yang non-degradable dan pemakaian detergen. BlackBerry Playbook versi 4G (WiMax)

Research In Motion (RIM) dalam waktu dekat berencana memproduksi BlackBerry Playbook versi 4G (WiMax) setelah kegagalan PlayBook versi wifi yang diluncurkan April lalu. Akan tetapi, Sprint Nextel, operator terbesar ketiga di Amerika membatalkan rencana untuk menjual PlayBook versi baru ini setelah melihat kegagalan penjualan versi sebelumnya. Sebelumnya Sprint merupakan operator pertama yang menjalin kerjasama penjualan PlayBook versi pertama.

Alasan Sprint membatalkan penjualan PlayBook WiMax, padahal Sprint saat ini termasuk operator yang mengusung teknologi WiMax, bukan LTE, adalah karena konsumen lebih menyukai komputer tablet versi Wifi. Menurut juru bicara Sprint, Paget Alves, “Orang-orang lebih banyak menggunakan tablet di lokasi tetap (fixed locations).”

Dua operator terbesar lainnya, Verizon dan AT&T juga belum mengambil keputusan apakah akan ikut menjual PlayBook generasi 4G ini atau tidak karena Verizon dan AT&T saat ini lebih memilih menggunakan teknologi LTE, lawan dari WiMax, untuk jaringan 4G mereka. Konon RIM juga sedang menguji PlayBook untuk teknologi LTE (Long Term Evolution) guna menyesuaikan dengan teknologi yang dianut kedua operator besar tersebut.

Alasan sebenarnya penolakan ketiga operator besar tersebut menurut Ed Snyder, seorang analis dari Charter Equity Research, adalah PlayBook tidak mampu bersaing dengan tablet-tablet lain, terutama sang pemimpin pasar, Apple iPad. Seperti kita ketahui pada April lalu saat peluncuran perdana PlayBook berukuran layar 7 inci, banyak pecinta gadget kecewa dengan performa PlayBook yang dianggap terburu-buru keluar karena tidak menyertakan aplikasi Email dan Calendar yang dianggap penting. Aplikasi BBM yang sangat digandrungi pengguna BB pun tidak ada, hanya bisa dijalankan bila menggunakan handset BlackBerry dan software Bridges. Tentu saja, hal ini dianggap merepotkan dan tidak praktis.

Akibatnya, penjualan PlayBook pun tidak menggairahkan. Outlet-outlet tidak mampu menjual stok yang hanya 5 unit pada hari pertama peluncuran. Meskipun dilaporkan RIM mampu menjual 50 ribu unit di minggu pertama, namun sepertinya angka-angka itu tidak juga bergerak pesat sesuai keinginan. Bandingkan dengan penjualan iPad 2 yang meluncur hampir bersamaan dan terjual jutaan unit hanya dalam dua hari akhir pekan peluncuran dan kini telah membukukan angka penjualan tidak kurang dari 18 juta unit.

Peluncuran PlayBook versi 4G ini adalah upaya terbaru RIM mengejar ketertinggalan di sektor tablet, sementara penjualan ponsel BlackBerry pun terus mengalami kemerosotan, tak mampu bersaing dengan Apple iPhone dan ponsel Android. Terkait dengan kondisi keuangan yang sedang tidak baik ini, RIM baru-baru ini mem-PHK sekitar 2.000 pekerja atau 10,5% total karyawannya.

Menurut Snyder, saat ini hanya ada dua kelompok komputer tablet, iPad dan kelompok tablet lain-lain. Dan jelas, Playbook berada dalam kelompok tablet lain-lain tersebut. Di pasar tablet telah beredar versi tablet berukuran sekitar 9 inci yang dipelopori iPad dan berukuran  7 inci atau lebih kecil. Galaxy Tab milik Samsung yang sebelumnya berukuran kecil saat ini juga melakukan revisi dengan Tab versi barunya menjadi 10.1 inci. Ukuran kecil yang semula dianggap ideal ternyata tidak terlalu disukai. Bahkan Steve Jobs pada Oktober tahun lalu telah memprediksi bahwa tablet berukuran 7 inci atau lebih kecil akan mengalami “dead on arrival“.

LG Optimus Pad

Kenyamanan pengguna menjadi salah satu pertimbangannya. Dengan luas layar 8.9-inci (hampir 9-inci) tablet ini tetap lebih portable ketimbang dengan tablet dengan ukuran layar 10 inci. BlackBerry PlayBook Melempem

Jakarta - BlackBerry PlayBook sepertinya susah meraih kesuksesan di tengah para pesaingnya. Diketahui, angka penjualan per unitnya jauh tertinggal dengan komputer tablet keluaran Apple, iPad.

Menurut survey yang dilakukan oleh Bloomberg, pada kuarter terakhir lalu RIM hanya mengapalkan satu Playbook untuk setiap 19 unit iPad yang dikapalkan Apple.

Dikutip detikINET dari Bloomberg, Kamis (15/9/2011), RIM hanya menjual sebanyak 490.000 unit PlayBook di kuarter pertama, sedangkan iPad sudah terjual sekitar 9,25 juta unit dalam periode yang sama.

"Hal ini menunjukkan bawa prospek perusahaan RIM hanya akan bergantung pada generasi baru BlackBerry," ujar Charlie Wolf, analis dari Needham & Co di New York.

Jumlah unit PlayBook yang akan dipasarkan oleh RIM di tahun ini juga jauh lebih sedikit dibandingkan dengan pemasaran iPad dan Galaxy Tab.

Dilaporkan, RIM hanya akan memasarkan 1,5 juta tablet, sedang Apple akan memasarkan 39,2 juta iPad dan Samsung akan mengapalkan 7 juta Galaxy Tab-nya.

PlayBook dikenalkan oleh RIM pada bulan April di Amerika dan Kanada dengan harga USD 500.

Ia memiliki layar yang lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan iPad sehingga membuat mantan CEO Apple Steve Jobs menjuluki tablet tersebut dengan 'tweeners'. Ia terlalu besar untuk menjadi sebuah smartpone namun terlalu kecil untuk menjadi sebuah tablet.

Ukuran yang terbilang 'nanggung' ini kelihatannya menjadi salah satu faktor melempemnya PlayBook di pasaran.

Akan tetapi bukan hanya RIM saja yang terengah-engah mengejar ketertinggalan dengan iPad. Seperti diberitakan sebelumnya piranti TouchPad milik Hewlett-Packarad juga akhirnya distop produksinya karena tidak berhasil menggaet hati konsumen.

Berikut adalah beberapa fitur BlackBerry PlayBook yang telah diungkap oleh RIM dalam Developer Conference 2010 (DevCon10) di San Francisco, Selasa (28/9/2010) dinihari WIB.

Dari sisi softwarenya, PlayBook akan menggunakan sistem operasi BlackBerry Tablet OS berdasarkan arsitektur micro-kernel QNX Neutrino. Neutrino telah banyak digunakan pada perangkat kesehatan, otomotif hingga router internet.

Software PlayBook mendukung Flash 10.1, WebKit dan HTML 5, OpenGL (untuk grafis 3D seperti pada game), Adobe Mobile AIR, Adobe Reader, Java, POSIX dan BlackBerry WebWorks.

Media yang bisa diputar di PlayBook termasuk video hingga resolusi 1080p High Definition. Formatnya, mencakup H.264, MPEG, DivX dan WMV. Sedangkan audionya mencakup MP3, AAC dan WMA.
